Rare 19th Century Swedish Designs

We have just framed a collection of 48 rare early 19th century Swedish designs for coverlets by Maria Christina Ekenmark (1786 - 1850), dating to 1827.

(Made as a reference for ‘Unga Fruntimmer’ (young women) in unusual white-on-black rendering, these show close similarity between the coverlet patterns of those in early C19th America which suggests that this collection may have come to America in the 1830s or ‘40s, when the mass immigration of Swedish pioneers was in full swing.

They were framed for our great client in Oxford - Foster & Gane using a hand stained natural oak moulding and specialist UV and non reflect glass.
